    The time is right to join HNTB!  We are currently seeking a Bridge Department Manager for our Ft. Lauderdale, Florida office.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for direction and supervision of a multiple professional or technical groups. Directs project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs. Responsible for efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.
    • Implements and executes the firm’s Sophisticated Sales Approach, Sophisticated Contracting Approach and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SSA, SCA, SDA).
    • Establishes priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments.
    • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
    • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and termination of department staff members.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Lead and/or assist business development activities.
    - Coordinate design development and/or assist in providing technical direction to the scope of projects.  Responsible for gross revenue of $1M-$2M
    - Provide senior level technical expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, detailed engineering design, and preparation of contracts for construction
    - Assist project management with administrative operations
    - Provide cost control on projects and quality control within discipline
    - Ensure completeness and accuracy of design team work
    - Reviews structure plans, component plans and other technical design documents such as design variations, design exceptions, typical section packages, design calculations, maintenance permits and non-conventional project concept plans and other technical documents.
    - Reviews contractor-initiated submittals (RFIs, RFCs, shop drawings, remedials, etc.) and coordinates with construction personnel.
    - Assists in the development of project scopes of services, preparation of staff hour estimates and the negotiation of staff hours.
    - Assists in the development of project requests for proposals (RFP) for FDOT non-conventional bid projects (design-build).
    - Provides technical input on complex structural engineering problems and provides effective coordination and communication with other technical disciplines. Technical input may be required on Value Engineering Studies, Concept/Scoping Reports, design standards, criteria, policies and revisions.
    - Attends project meetings, field reviews and other technical related debriefs.
    - Coordinates or performs structural analysis and design, quantity calculations, plans preparations for in-house design tasks.
    - Coordinates and assigns reviews to other support resources including reviews, structural analysis, evaluations, designs, calculations, etc.
    - Developing and mentoring staff
    - Effectively coordinates and communicates with others, both verbally and in writing. Engages other disciplines to resolve issues, manages time and coordinates reviews to meet project schedules for multiple projects

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    16 years relevant experience
    4 years supervisory experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
    - 12 or more years of bridge design experience required.
    - Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
    - Florida PE (or ability to obtain within six months) a must.
    - 5 or more years of experience on FDOT related projects preferred.
    - Experience working on Design-Build projects a plus.
    - Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MathCAD and Microstation (or AutoCAD) required.
    - Experience using CSi Bridge, CONSPAN, RC-Pier, FB-MultiPier, MDX and DESCUS preferred
    - Knowledge of FDOT Standard Specifications, Structures Manual, Bridge Load Rating Manual, Plans Preparation Manual, and Design Standards.

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
