    The time is right to join HNTB!  We are currently seeking a Department Manager - Transportations Structures for our Bellevue, WA office.

     

    HNTB, an award winning national bridge design firm, has an immediate opportunity for a Bridge and Tunnel Department Manager with a demonstrated ability to strategically grow our practice and to pursue and position for bridge and other transportation structures projects. The successful applicant will lead one of the most well established and respected bridge and tunnel practices within the Pacific Northwest known for its involvement in some of the most interesting and exciting transportation structures projects on the West coast. The position is based in our Bellevue, Washington office. The successful applicant will be charged with supervising, growing, and continued development of the Bridge and Tunnel Department and will have the opportunity to lead the delivery of a variety of bridge and structures related projects.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for direction and supervision of a large professional or technical group. Coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs. Responsible for technical coaching and mentoring and efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.
    • Implements and executes the firm’s Sophisticated Sales Approach, Sophisticated Contracting Approach and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SSA, SCA, SDA).
    • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and termination of department staff members.
    • Coordinates department activities and assigns priorities and staff to projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Leading the pursuit of new transportation structures work to support to grow the practice
    - Fostering client relationships
    - Directly supervising and developing 5 or more employees and overseeing a bridge and tunnel structures department more than 25 employees
    - Leading project teams in the development of plans, specifications, and estimates for structure replacements, rehabilitations, and retrofits.
    - Actively managing transportation structure projects. This will include interacting with the client, managing scope, schedule and budget, and insuring a top-quality product is delivered to the client.
    - Negotiating contracts for transportation structures projects including preparing fee estimates and scope of work and assisting with contract preparation.

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    16 years relevant experience
    4 years supervisory experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 
    - Washington Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain within 3 months.
    - Washington Professional Structural Engineering certification is preferred.
    - Fifteen or more years of experience in the pursuit, delivery, and management of bridge and transportation projects, preferably in the Pacific Northwest.
    - Ability to work independently, as well as a team member
    - City of Seattle, Sound Transit, and WSDOT relationships and experience
    - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
