    The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Senior Track Engineer and Inspector- Rail/Transit in our Baltimore, MD office.


    Job Summary

    Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of $1-$2M.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.
    • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Supervises and guides team to overall project objectives.
    • Provides senior-level technical expertise to client on project aspects within the discipline.
    • Assists with project management duties.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Assists assigned department by performing engineering-related tasks including research, development, design and delivery on assigned project(s)
    - Responsible for managing and delivering quality transit/rail services on-time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client.
    - Serve as a technical resource leading a team providing rail track engineering, design, and inspection services for clients.
    - Coordinate work efforts; conduct rail track inspections to evaluate work performed and/or project plans.
    - Assist the Project Manager in cost estimate, determine scope of work, and prepare proposals and contracts on projects.
    - Contributes to the preparation or modification of reports, plans and designs for projects.
    - Participate in the collection and analysis of data and preparation of satisfactory designs. 
    - Perform design calculations and conduct investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks, and direct preparation of design specifications.
    - Perform quantity estimates, detailing and check calculations and drawings.
    - Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments.

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    10 years relevant experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline 
    - 10+ years of experience in rail track design, management and implementation of transit/rail projects.
    - Experience working on large transit/rail engineering projects. 
    - Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
    - Experience working with rail maintenance organizations (Signal, Power, OCS, Communications)
    - PE license preferred but not required.
    - Strong written and oral communications skills.

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
