    The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB Corporation is currently seeking an Engineer III - Traffic Operations in our Lake Mary, Florida office.


    Job Summary

    Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs.  Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
    • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
    • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Perform traffic safety studies with minimal to no supervision applying state and national standards 
    - Perform GIS analysis and apply spreadsheet level data analysis and presentation solutions
    - Perform studies using models such as Safety Analyst, Data Driven Safety Analysis, or similar
    - Interact with clients on direct assignments as well as research study approach
    - Perform study from start to finish and develop high quality reports
    - Identify implementable solutions and countermeasures
    - Perform review of best practices and research
    - Perform safety audits for crash locations and apply MUTCD standards
    - Able to communicate solutions and develop concepts plans independently and in a team environment
    - Able to supervise staff and manage tasks assigned by various managers
    - Perform studies in a fast paced field and home office environment
    - Perform field reviews and collect field data and document findings and summarize results

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    5 years relevant experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - PE in Florida or ability to transfer to Florida within one year.
    - Experience with traffic safety and operational studies
    - Experience working with Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM), MUTCD, etc.
    - Experience with performing Road Safety Audits
    - Extensive experience with GIS and spreadsheet level safety/operational data analysis
    - Experience with Synchro, HCS, or VISSIM/CORSIM software
    - Understanding of traffic signal fundamentals
    - Experience with working in team environment and ability take and give directions from/to other staff
    - Experience with working in a fast paced environment and ability to juggle various tasks at one time and produce results
    - Understand the difference between urgent and priority tasks and demonstrate with experience
    - Participate in collection and analysis of data and preparation of reports and presentations.
    - Conduct investigative analyses toward completion of assigned design tasks, and direct preparation of design drawings and/or specifications.
    - Check calculations and drawings.
    - Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments.
    - Skilled in plans review for traffic engineering elements such as Signing, Pavement Markings and Signals.
    - Prior applications of MUTCD requirements
    - Knowledge of highway signing and pavement marking
    - Skill with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD and MS Visio

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
