    Overview

    HNTB is currently seeking a Lead Aviation Architect to support our growing architecture practice, who has demonstrated expertise in serving as architect of record and in managing large, high profile aviation terminal project(s) exceeding $300M in value (experience on larger valued terminal projects is a plus)  This position requires a doer/seller who will collaborate with HNTB Aviation Market Sector Leadership (Aviation Architecture Market Sector Leaders and the Division Aviation Leaders) and will lead aviation client architectural projects and pursuits.

     

    The successful candidate will help build and will lead an aviation architectural practice in the HNTB - Atlanta office which will focus on the Southeastern US, and also support the national aviation architectural practice.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to assure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.  Serves as primary liaison contact with clients to bring projects to completion on schedule, within budget and with maximum client satisfaction.  Handles the most complex projects of the largest magnitude.

     

    Essential Responsibility

    • Has full responsibility for managing all aspects of project(s).  Prepares strategic plans for project success.  Serves as primary liaison contact with the clients to bring projects to completion on schedule, within budget and with client satisfaction.
    • Responsible for the coordination of all project efforts, administrative and technical, to assure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
    • Actively manages client’s budget, schedule and program as well as HNTB’s budget and schedule.  Responsible for project communications and documentation.   Oversees office administrative tasks and project team assignments. 
    • Provides oversight and monitoring of work to less experienced project managers.  Coordinates work efforts and reviews work performed.   Schedules and manages for integration of quality management during all phases of a project.
    • Estimates fees, determines scope of work, and prepares proposals and contracts on the most complex projects of the largest magnitude. 
    • Responsible for performance evaluations, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, or Architectural/Civil Engineering
    12 Years of related experience
    RA, RID or PE Certifications/Licenses

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

     
    - Bachelor’s degree in Architecture plus Minimum 12 years’ experience (15 years preferred) on large terminal projects ($300M+) or large hub terminal design experience, domestic or international, Customs and Border Protection facilities, concessions/retail, client brand integration, interior and exterior terminal architectural elements, technical understanding of terminal programming and planning.
    - Candidates should have a proven successful track record in writing approaches, creating design schedules, estimating design fees, and primarily managing large terminal design teams including multiple consultants, while building relationships with airports’ staff and prospective future project / client selection committee members.
    - The successful candidate should have a solid understanding of airport clients’ governance / political environments, have successfully managed airport client relationships and possess a current understanding of airline industry trends, business practices, interests and strategies.
    - Recognized leading designer in the aviation industry, with BIM familiarity (Building Information Modeling) in order to direct BIM design staff.
    - Registered Architect, Licensed in GA preferred.
    - NCARB Preferred.
    - LEED AP Preferred.
    - Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate with aviation clients and stakeholders, lead the writing of  design proposals and aviation project and technical documents and create the vision for presentations for interviews and design presentations, including PowerPoint and other multimedia software for aviation terminal architectural projects.
    - Experience leading and managing a team of multi-discipline planners, architects and engineers throughout the planning, design and construction phases of airport terminal buildings.
    - Frequent travel is to be expected.

    General Work Conditions

    Office Environment:  Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions.  Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
