    Overview

    The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Water Resources/Transportation Storm Water  Engineer III in our Chicago, Illinois office.

    Job Summary

    Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs.  Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
    • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
    • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Conducts design and constructibility reviews of plans
    - Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with preparation of weekly and monthly program updates and reporting 
    - Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies
    - Coordinates with construction observers, consultant engineers, utility coordinators, and right of way coordinators 
    - Conducts reviews and makes recommendations of approval of potential construction change orders, utility agreements, and construction & utility pay estimates
    - Updates and maintains master schedule for the program
    - Engineering design and plan and specification development as needed for flood control projects and site and roadway improvements.
    - Is technically involved in the resolution of design problems that may include performing hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and computer modeling for water resources, roadway and bridge projects, field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
    The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in:
     
    - the development of highway design plans and specifications for a state DOT in MicroStation format;
    - analysis and design of storm water management and flood control facilities including the use of HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS; and
    - the use of other full equation H&H software packages a plus.

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    5 years relevant experience
    EIT

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - PE/AICP (depending on discipline)
    - 2 plus years of water resources experience.
    - Master’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis in hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources preferred
    -
    CAD Production in MicroStation and AutoCAD

    -
    Production Experience with CAD modeling software and hydrology, hydraulics, and water resources computer models and spreadsheet calculations a plus

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
