We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer experienced in the execution of site/civil engineering design services for projects focusing on military and related U.S. Federal Installations.  The position will be located in the HNTB Arlington, Virginia office.  The selected candidate will prepare plans and specifications that integrate site grading, roadway, utilities, storm drainage, architecture and landscape architecture site improvements.

    Job Summary

    Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of $1-$2M.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.
    • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Supervises and guides team to overall project objectives.
    • Provides senior-level technical expertise to client on project aspects within the discipline.
    • Assists with project management duties.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    - Site/Civil Engineering Design Expertise - Demonstrated strong background and technical proficiency in site/civil engineering design assignments.
    - Project Leadership - Demonstrated experience serving in a task lead role as part of a large project team. On a given project, this person will serve as the Task Manager for engineering design disciplines which typically represent a significant portion of overall work effort.
    - Design Leadership - Provide technical expertise on all project aspects associated with conceptual engineering, presentations, detailed engineering design, and preparation of contracts for construction. Responsible for ensuring completeness and accuracy of work prepared by a design team.
    - Responsible for engineering staff resource scheduling, management of budgets, and coordination of junior staff. Provide cost control on project and quality control within the discipline.
    - Communications - Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with internal team members and external entities including the contracting agency, owner and key stakeholder groups.

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    10 years relevant experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET-accredited curriculum
    - Professional Engineer (PE) License required
    - Experience with site development design and construction drawing preparation with a focus on leading the integration of grading, paving, utilities, and storm drainage engineers
    - Experience in working on USACE projects and understanding of MILCON site development requirements
    - Experience with DoD standards and requirements including use of Uniform Facility Criteria (UFC) standards and use of Uniform Facility Guide Specs (UFGS) as applied to civil engineering projects
    - Work well in a team structure including leading and collaborating with multi-disciplined professionals both within and outside the firm
    - Strong communication skills in dealing with clients and peers
    - Experience in executing site/civil engineering design assignments for USACE projects in the NCR
    - Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or MicroStation
    - Experience with SpecsIntact
    - LEED or Envision Certification

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
