    The time is right to join HNTB!  We are seeking candidates for the position of Senior Quality Engineer - Transit in our Washington, D.C. office.


    This position will support quality control and quality assurance by qualitatively and quantitatively evaluating internal and external processes including planning, engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance. Write technical documents such as: reports, standard operating procedures, manuals, work instructions, and other technical guidance documents.

    Job Summary

    Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs.  Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
    • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
    • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    This position is an excellent opportunity to join our multi-disciplined team co-located with a major transit agency in Washington, DC. The overall objective of this position is to contribute to the agency’s success through quality improvement initiatives and action plans to ensure safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
    - Provide quality assurance, internal compliance, and oversight of operations, engineering, maintenance, and assets.
    - Complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction
    - Write technical documents such as: standard operating procedures, manuals, work instructions, and reports.
    - Possess strong technical knowledge of rapid transit systems, planning, engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations.
    - Analyze data to promote process improvements, develop standards, and evaluate systems and processes.
    - Perform independent and objective appraisals for a service, process, product, or system to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, laws, and regulations.
    - Partner in the preparation, modification, and implementation of corrective action plans.
    - Provide support for monitoring and tracking compliance with internal and external regulations, rules, and requirements.
    - Interpret and understand corrective action plans, preventative action plans, continuous improvement, best practices, and performance measures.
    - Supervise and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
    - Spend 33% of time on field activities.
    - Will travel to various agency locations within the Washington DC metropolitan area.
    The ideal candidate is someone who:
    - Has the ability to proactively assess quality, safety, and reliability issues.
    - Works well in a balanced work environment with a mix of team-based assignments with internal departments and external agencies, as well as can work independently.
    - Listens to understand and asks clarifying questions.
    - Takes personal accountability for results by scheduling work assignments, assessing the level of effort required, then delivering on time.
    - Manages multiple priorities, and deliverables simultaneously through planning and preparation.
    - Facilitates the continuous improvement of work processes.
    - Can convey technical information clearly and concisely to various audiences.

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    5 years relevant experience

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    - Certifications by the American Society for Quality a plus.
    - Excellent oral and writing skills.
    - Proficient with MSOffice suite of software tools.

    General Work Conditions

    Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
