    Overview

    This Senior Project Director, should possess strong management and leadership skills, driving the successful completion of projects and contribute in growth of the business for the firm. A successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively across multi-disciplined groups along with the ability to build consensus, fostering strong relationships enterprise wide. The successful candidate will be one who has an industry recognized reputation for successfully completed transit projects of significant complexity, with excellent knowledge and experience in Traction Power system and who has had leadership roles in transit project development from planning and alternatives analysis, through the environmental approval process, through final design, and into construction and implementation.

    Reports to the Senior Vice President, perform numerous daily business operations leading the Traction Power and OCS related Rail systems project in the Western United States region.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for the profitable operation of large, mega projects.

    Essential Responsibility

    • Responsible for managing and delivering mega projects on-time, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client.
    • Develops and nurtures key client relationships and is the primary company contact on the project.
    • Identifies and markets additional business opportunities with key clients.
    • Sets priorities, secure resources and obtain commitment to work according to the project planned with department managers and section heads.
    • Consistently maintains an overall view for the progress of the assigned project.
    • Oversees the Project Managers and as a functional manager, to support with the right resources, competencies and tools that are available.
    • Ensures the achievement of product quality, project targets, budget control and project profitability over the project portfolio.
    • Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Assumes management responsibility for assigned services and activities of the Traction Power Engineering Department including design, rehabilitation, construction, and maintenance support
    • This individual should have experience at successfully winning and delivering projects through Program Management, Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build delivery methods, and will be responsible for project budgeting, planning, and client satisfaction.
    • Primary duties would include: Serve as a Senior Project Director and Department Manager for Traction Power systems, including all aspects of client and design-team management of light rail and commuter rail projects. Manage the preparation of plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates. Plan, organize, and supervise project teams to ensure good contract performance. Remain current on Federal Transit Administration FTA and FRA policies, regulations and procedures that impact the design and implementation of transit projects.
    • Performs and oversees the design work the traction power system design for new projects, rehabilitation of existing system, maintenance, and construction projects to ensure technical and code conformance to established standards.
    • Manages and oversees traction power system rehabilitation and other contracts on behalf of client organizations, including traction power engineering projects; develop, reviews and approves final project plans, specifications and cost estimates
    • Implement the project management tools required for a major transit i.e., scope, cost and schedule control. Proven experience in managing, coordinating and supervising daily the work of all the practices/disciplines involved in large transit projects is required. A demonstrated ability to identify the requirements of the project, analyze and develop expert opinion and form conclusions consistent with project risks and the client expectations is necessary.
    • Flexible to travel within the United States
    • Position is based in Southern California

    Basic Qualification

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
    16 years engineering experience, including directing large mega projects

    Preferred Qualification/Skills

    • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent is preferred
    • Minimum of 15 years progressive experience working on major infrastructure projects with significant concentration of experience in rail and light rail transit projects, experience with clients in the National Capital Region preferred.
    • Senior Project Management experience required with demonstrated experience at profitably managing major projects.
    • Experience must include final design projects that included the management of 20+ resources (employees and sub-consultants) to deliver on time and within budget guidelines.
    • Effective client management skills.
    • Excellent relationship building, leading teams and effective communication skills are important qualifications for this position

    General Work Conditions

    Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
