Overview

The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking a Sr Traffic Engineer for our Wisconsin office. This position may be located in Milwaukee or Madison, Wisconsin.

 

HNTB prides itself on its ability to provide a wide variety of traffic signal design and advanced traffic operations services to support local, state, and federal clients.  Professionals in our Wisconsin offices are currently involved in several of the state’s largest freeway reconstruction projects and have been actively applying state-of-the practice traffic signal design and operations technologies in Wisconsin since the mid-1990s.

Job Summary

Provides coordination of project execution and control, in a given discipline area, to achieve continuity of purpose within scope, budget, and time schedules from initial start-up through project closeout. Also accountable for handling specific design aspects on projects appropriate to discipline field. Coordinates efforts of assigned design team to ensure completeness and accuracy of design effort. Serves as technical liaison with client on project efforts. Responsible for gross revenue of $1-$2M.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for the delivery of project discipline scope elements within budget and schedule.
  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work. Supervises and guides team to overall project objectives.
  • Provides senior-level technical expertise to client on project aspects within the discipline.
  • Assists with project management duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

 
Responsible for the delivery of traffic signal design, traffic signal timing, traffic signal systems, traffic capacity and operations analysis, traffic impact analysis reports, microsimulation models and ITS.
Assist with the preparation of feasibility studies, crash analysis, traffic forecasts, feasibility studies, crash analysis, traffic forecasts and other traffic tasks.
Prepare project plans, quantities and specifications related to traffic signals and ITS.
Assist with the preparation of project plan including maintenance of traffic, pavement marking and signing.
Design communications systems between field devices and central operations centers.
Quality control and cross discipline reviews.
Assist with project management duties.
Mentor junior staff.
Organize scheduling of specific tasks and assignments.
Coordination with clients.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
10 years relevant experience
PE or AICP (depending on discipline)

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and traffic operations experience and technical experience in traffic signal design required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience with adaptive signal control technologies, traffic signal performance measures, railroad preemption and transit preemption systems.
Familiarity with emerging technologies including AV/CV.
Traffic engineering software experience (Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM).
Experience on WisDOT traffic operations and safety work.
Design software experience is preferred (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
Strong writing skills including experience in writing technical reports.
Proficiency in MS Office products - Word, Excel and Power Point

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
