The time is right to join HNTB!  We are seeking candidates for the position of Highway Design Engineer III in our Detroit or Okemos, Michigan office.

 

For more than 25 years, the HNTB Michigan offices have planned, designed, and delivered some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Michigan.

Job Summary

Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs.  Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

 
- Completes construction plan and specification development, and design and quantity calculations with minimal direction.
- On a task basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs.
- Develops design drawings and calculations, including 3D models of roadways and utility networks
- Performs design and quantity calculations and assembles project cost estimates
- Develops construction specifications required for contract documents
- Conducts design and constructability reviews of plans
- Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with preparation of weekly and monthly program updates and reporting 
- Assists Senior Engineers and Project Managers with management of design review process and permitting through outside agencies
- Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
5 years relevant experience
EIT

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
- 5 years of experience in highway design required
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering
- PE
- Microstation and Geopak or OpenRoads 3D Modeling

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
