The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a Transit Safety Engineer in our Atlanta, GA office.

Job Summary

Supports the safety aspect at a client site; provides oversight to all levels of project team.

Essential Responsibility

  • Determines whether the contractor is conducting and documenting periodic jobsite safety inspections.
  • Summarizes weekly safety service responses to the client.
  • Determines whether the contractor has submitted a written safety program and/or site-specific safety plan.
  • Confirms that the contractor is documenting jobsite safety orientations for their employees.
  • Confirms that the contractor is documenting safety meetings as required by their contract or safety plan.
  • Observes whether contractor’s employees are wearing personal protective equipment as required by the client.
  • Verifies that the contractor has developed accident investigating procedures.
  • Observes for, but no duty to discover, unsafe conditions during the course of the project.
  • Taking reasonable action, such as warning workers who appear to be in imminent danger or if an emergency situation exists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

Acting as the Owner’s representative, the candidate will provide Safety Oversight of construction and installation projects in a transit environment.
- Observes Contractor’s work crews and Owner’s personnel to ensure safe practices are being followed during project construction and operation
- Confirms that Contractor is performing and documenting all required safety meetings, procedures and policies
- Reviews Contractor Safety submittals including the written safety program and site-specific safety plan
- Maintains weekly Safety incident and activity logs
- Summarizes weekly safety service responses to the Owner and verifies that the contractor has developed accident investigating procedures.
- Attend and lead quarterly and monthly safety meetings.
- Assist with safety investigations if incidents occur
- Assist the Owner with developing and/or editing safety plans and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Safety or Construction related degree
10 years project experience
In lieu of degree, 14 years project experience
OSHA 30 hour in Construction and First AID/CPR Certified or the ability to obtain within 6 months

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Experience on Transit Projects.  
- Proficient collaborator; easily partners with, and gets things done with and through others.
- Ability to cultivate, motivate, and inspire all levels of the project team.
- Highly engaged and maintains strong field presence.
- Ability to access and work at heights by using stairs, ladders, and personal fall arrest systems (PFAS).
- Flexibility to support off shifts as necessary and availability to respond to incidents after work hours.
- Ability to multi-task and balance priorities.
- Highly organized and able to maintain project records.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to mentor and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Good oral and written communication and presentation skills

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
