Overview

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Rail Quality Engineer I in our Washington, D.C. office.

Job Summary

Inspects and documents individual activities performed by the contractor in order to monitor compliance with specifications, plans, and other contract provisions, as well as state and local regulations. Works closely with experienced field engineers on various field projects in order to develop field experience in techniques, approaches, and procedures and the nature of engineering systems, equipment, etc.

Essential Responsibility

  • Gains exposure to construction procedures and methodology by assisting experienced field engineers on various construction tasks.
  • Keeps Inspectors Daily Report of assigned work activities.
  • Performs mathematical calculations for quantity payments using either English or Metric units.
  • Performs basic shop drawing review.
  • Reads and interprets Contractors CPM schedule.
  • Coordinates testing and monitoring services.
  • Coordinates and schedules quality control inspections.
  • Maintains project data documents, including drawings, specifications, test results and reports.
  • Prepares routine reports on construction progress.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Determines quality and continous improvement opportunities through analysis of methods, procedures, reports, and other relevant data.
- Uses various processes to determine the root cause of problems, failures, and near misses, and communicates results through presentations and reports.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing data; making recommendations.
- Is familiar with the International Standards Organizations (ISO) family of documents.
- Can create and apply QC tools such as Pareto Charts, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Histograms, Interrelationship Diagrams, etc.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Preferred Qualification/Skills

At least one year experience
Six Sigma Yellow Belt

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
