Overview

HNTB Corporation is currently seeking a Transportation Project Manager to assist in the management of General Engineering Consultant (GEC) and/or large civil transportation projects. The position will be based in our Richmond, VA office and will support projects throughout southern Virginia.

Job Summary

Responsible for the leadership and management of a team in support of the project’s profitable operation. Responsible for proactively managing the projects technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Responsible for gross revenue of <$5M.

Essential Responsibility

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.
  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- The successful candidate will coordinate with clients to define annual or other periodic work programs and budgets, provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work products.
- Individual will coordinate with staff responsible for the production of design plans, specifications, and estimates for highway improvement and repair/rehabilitation projects.
- Individual will be responsible to function as owner’s representative in developing, advertising, letting, and administering construction contracts.
- She/he will bring innovative solutions to the development of work products associated with design, construction, operation and maintenance of highway infrastructure.
- She/he will estimate fees for professional services, solicit competitive bids for vendor services, develop scopes of work, prepare proposals and contracts on large transportation projects.
- She/he will be attentive and responsive to client needs, directives, and requirements.
- Individual is responsible to function as part of a team to maintain and develop strong client relations that result in profitable new work.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
8 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- At least 8 years of experience in the design, management, and construction of civil transportation projects
- Must possess a Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) license or be able to obtain a license within the three months of hiring
- Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control Training certification is preferred
- Experience on projects undertaken for the Virginia Department of Transportation, other state DOT organizations, or tolling agency is preferred
- GEC or Program Management experience preferred
- Toll project experience is desired
- Strong written and oral communication skills are required
- Individual must be energetic, flexible, adaptable, self-directed, success-oriented, and client-focused
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary A/E environment is required
- Experience on work assignments involving co-location with the client is preferred
 

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
