Overview

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Construction Services Leader  in our Houston, Texas office.

 

HNTB is looking to partner with a construction leader to expand our existing practice that provides construction management and construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services to transportation clients in Texas with a focus on the South and Central Texas area.  If you are a team oriented leader who has been responsible for winning and executing construction services at an engineering/construction services firm, with a desire to work on regionally and nationally significant projects and provide superior service to your clients in a personally and professionally fulfilling work environment, then we want to talk to you!

Job Summary

Responsible for direction and supervision of a multiple professional or technical groups. Directs project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs. Responsible for efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing high-quality service.

Essential Responsibility

  • Actively manages assigned project management activities (project scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.
  • Implements and executes the firm’s Sophisticated Sales Approach, Sophisticated Contracting Approach and Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SSA, SCA, SDA).
  • Establishes priorities and work schedules and coordinates resource needs/assignments.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, mentoring, professional development, evaluation and termination of department staff members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Overall management direction of major transportation projects providing construction services to public transportation agencies, airports, public infrastructure agencies, transit and rail systems and toll authorities.
- Developing leads, client contact, winning work, and ensuring profitability and effective cash flow of work performed.
- Build and maintain existing client relationships and develop new business.
- Ability to lead major construction management and CEI pursuits.   
- Timely and satisfactory completion of  programs and projects providing construction services, assuring satisfactory client service, key field position staffing, project plans, objectives setting, performance evaluation, and related management activities.
- Provide overall leadership to our existing construction services practice.
- Active preferably in a leadership position in transportation professional and trade organizations such as APTA and CMAA.
- Assist in resolution of program and project issues.
- Represent HNTB with client, public and regulatory agencies.
- Recruit, Train and develop construction services staff.
- Listens well and develops the skills and talents of others; leading and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Must be a seller/doer with strategic vision and leadership to drive business development goals into reality a robust construction services practice.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
16 years relevant experience
4 years supervisory experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Master's degree in Engineering
- PE/AICP
-
15+ years of experience in Construction Management/Services on Civil Transportation projects.

- Professional Engineering (PE) License
- Design-Build project experience
- Experience managing  construction services for TxDOT, rail and transit agencies, airports or toll authorities and delivering transportation projects and task assignments
- Ability to think creatively and independently, lead projects, task assignments and work as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and public presentation experience is a must

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
