Overview

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is currently seeking a Environmental Planning Director in our New York, NY office.   The Environmental Planning Director will identify and pursue opportunities to build a successful Environmental Planning practice in HNTB's New York office. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of winning work in the NY metropolitan region, successfully managing complex projects and supervising and mentoring staff

Job Summary

Using complex problem solving and strategic thinking, identifies and creates market opportunities that will lead to consistent corporate growth by bringing profitable clients and projects to HNTB. Coordinates with group director and office leaders to identify and define new services that may meet client needs.

Essential Responsibility

  • Maintains knowledge of key local and national markets.
  • Establishes short and long term market analysis in alignment with office, division and market area and practice area goals and priorities.
  • Directs major market efforts, schedules, preparation of proposals and interviews, assists in the development of marketing materials and provides quality control in concert with marketing resources.
  • Works with group director, office and practice leaders to provide input into office and division business plans.
  • Monitors and manages marketing budgets and leads tracking.
  • Communicates, as necessary, with group director, office, division and market area/practice area leadership to maintain focus on priorities and assume a sophisticated sales approach in all activities.
  • Serves as client service leader for assigned market area or project manager for key clients and larger assignments. Maintains extensive client contacts.
  • Coordinates with group director in the preparation of training programs focused on sophisticated sales approach.
  • Serves as a key resource in respective market area in winning mega projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Plan, organize, develope and maintain programs for efficient, productive utilization of staff in providing 4for4 client service and performance.
- Responsible for all environmental aspects of projects including scope development, contract negotiations, cost control, staff management, quality control and cash management. Actively manages project budget, schedule, project communications and documentation.
- Works internally with multiple market sector leaders to secure and manage the profitable operation of multiple projects with a focus on mega projects.
- Attracts and effectively develops experienced staff to maximize potential, enhance strong technical credentials and solid reputation to expand our existing environmental planning capabilities and markets.
- Plans, directs and implements an aggressive marketing program focused on certain markets in in specific geographic areas for both new and existing clients
- Develops and enhances client relationships and serve as a primary contact
- Business development and hands on management of complex and multifaceted projects that followed the NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR and ULRUP process for various agencies. Must demonstrate experience in progressively responsible positions.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or related field
12 years related experience
10 years related experience (with Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Natural Science or related field)

Preferred Qualification/Skills

15 years related experience
RLA, RA, AICP or CEP certification
Extensive business development and project management experience with various governmental agencies (cities, counties, authorities, MPOs, DOT, etc.).
 
AICP, CEP or other similar professional registration desired

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
