We are currently seeking a multi-faceted Senior Transit Planner to join our Transportation Planning group in the Raleigh, NC office.

Job Summary

Directs the technical production of planning assignments and teams. Coordinates with project manager, project designer and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning, urban design or landscape architectural projects to ensure that the client's technical requirements of projects are fully met. May serve as a Project Manager on a limited basis for select medium and large scale projects. Regular task assignee on multiple projects.

Essential Responsibility

  • Performs various project supports tasks where planning involvement is required or requested on major, complex projects.
  • Assists leadership with implementation of office-wide technical standards and maintenance of technical resources.
  • Prepares scopes of work, fee proposals and assists with responses to RFP’s.
  • Directs technical aspects of multiple and large-scale planning projects and teams.
  • Directs, coordinates, and reviews technical work performed by other project team members.
  • Performs quality checks to ensure client requirements are met.
  • Responsible for significant portions of presentations and public facilitation.
  • Oversees the work of less experienced staff. Assists in directing teams for medium to large scale projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Managing transportation planning tasks, studies, and projects.
- Coordination of data be gathered for transportation studies.
- Preparation and assessment of transportation data.
- Technical data analysis and methodology development to support transportation planning analysis.
- Development of project alternatives and scenarios.
- Conduct comparative analysis in support of transportation analysis including community benefit verses cost of project.
- Facilitate stakeholder and public meetings to get feedback and input on projects.
- Attend and lead meetings both within and outside the firm pertaining to existing and potential projects (Public awareness groups and regulatory agencies, etc.).
- Coordination with clients and potential clients including Federal, State and Local agencies.
- Identifying future business opportunities.
- Proposal development and presentations.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning or related field
10 years related experience
8 years related experience (with Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning or related field)

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Public Policy, or a related discipline
- Experience with Federal and State transportation planning policies and procedures, specifically the Federal Transit Administration, Federal Highway Administration, or other U.S. Department of Transportation Agencies.
- Experience leading and delivering Transit Planning projects and task assignments, as well as leading and mentoring younger staff.
- Ability to think creatively and independently, lead projects, task assignments and work as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and public presentation experience is a must.
- Transit planning experience a plus.
- Technical writing skills required.
- Some consulting experience required.

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
