Overview

We are currently seeking an engineer with experience in designing Intelligent Transportation Systems.  This position can be located in either our Parsippany, Newark, or Cherry Hill office locations!

Job Summary

Within a given discipline, is fully competent to complete engineering-related tasks including research, development, calculations, design and delivery with minimal direction. On tasks basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering efforts that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

 

Essential Responsibility

  • Responsible for completion of discipline engineering project elements such as reports, designs, specifications and plans.
  • Responsible for coordination and productivity of subordinates. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Works closely with other disciplines and multi-discipline projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Prepares feasibility studies, reports, and concept of operations documents.
- Develops drawings, details, and specifications for ITS, traffic signal or technology projects.
- Supports ITS system implementation including support for oversight of design, testing, installation
- Reviews design documents and material submittals for ITS, traffic signal, or technology
- projects.
- Participates in the design and implementation of Traffic Management Centers (TMC)
- Remains current on existing and emerging technologies.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a technical background in Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Computers or Networking
5 years relevant experience
EIT

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Master's degree
- Experience on NJTA, NJDOT, and/or PANY&NJ projects
- PE license
- Knowledge of Traffic engineering software (Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM)
- Knowledge of ITS equipment and their applications
- Understanding of NJTA, PANY&NJ, and NJDOT ITS Design Standards, Policies and Procedures
- Understanding of traffic operations, signal design, signal timing, adaptive signal systems, ITS design, highway signing & marking and other related traffic engineering work
- Understanding of electronic signage including variable message signs, variable speed limit signs, lane use control signals, CCTV cameras/encoders, and vehicle detection devices
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, and project management software tools
- Experience in the use of Autocad or Microstation for detail development

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment:  Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions.  Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.  Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field.  Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking.  Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
