Overview

We are currently seeking a Sr Project Manager - ITS / Traffic. This position can be located in either our Parsippany, Newark, or Cherry Hill office locations!

Job Summary

Responsible for the leadership and management of team in support of the project’s profitable operation. Responsible for proactively managing the projects technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Responsible for gross revenue of $10M-30M.

Essential Responsibility

  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of work to less experienced project managers. Coordinates work efforts and review work performed. Schedules and manages for integration of quality management during all phases of a project.
  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Proactively manages ITS, Traffic Signal, and Technology projects.
- Manages and mentors junior engineering and CAD staff for production to meet deliverables.
- Supervises the preparation of feasibility studies, reports, and concept of operations documents.
- Develops drawings, specifications, schedules and engineer’s cost estimates.
- Successful pursuit and project management of ITS projects, including ITS design, municipal traffic signal system design, ITS Operations, and ITS Planning.
- Participates in strategic planning and business development activities to support achievement of ITS/Traffic Section growth goals.
- Supports ITS system implementation including support for oversight of design, testing, installation.
- Prepares information for, or in response to, client presentations and meetings including support for development of planning materials such as agendas and/or documentation such as meeting minutes.
- Leads project analyst type of work supporting ITS project budgets (internal or for client), project status, and general support, reporting results to Director or designees as assigned by Director.
- Reviews design documents, and material submittals for Freeway ITS, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) and Managed Lanes projects.
- Participates in the design and implementation of Traffic Management Centers (TMC).
- Remains current on existing and emerging technologies.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with technical background in either Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Computers or Networking
16 years relevant experience
6 years project management experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

 
- Master’s Degree
- Professional Engineer license
- Understanding of systems engineering processes
- Understanding of NJTA, PANY&NJ, and NJDOT ITS Design Standards, Policies and Procedures
- Understanding of traffic operations, signal design, signal timing, adaptive signal systems, ITS design, highway signing & marking and other related traffic engineering work
- Understanding of electronic signage including variable message signs, variable speed limit signs, lane use control signals, CCTV cameras/encoders, and vehicle detection devices
- Experience and relationships within NJTA, NJDOT, and/or PANY&NJ
- Knowledge of Traffic engineering software is preferred (Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM)
- Experience and familiarity with AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Good written and oral skills. Ability to communicate ideas effectively and present well
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office products, and project management software tools

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
