HNTB, a recognized leader in rail transportation and rail systems, is seeking a Senior Rail Signaling Engineer in our Rail Systems Group on one or more rail projects out of our Northeast Division in our Philadelphia, PA office.  This position can also be located in our King of Prussia, PA office.

Job Summary

  • Has built a career designing and implementing vital and non-vital signal systems in Class I and rail transit markets over the last 10 years or more;
  • Has personally designed signal systems with the latest technology and standards and has significant hands-on experience in the implementation and certification of said technology for use on the US rail systems;
  • Has developed a reputation and has relationships with clients as a strong team leader with high integrity and professionalism;
  • Understands and is able to balance the need for high quality product with the need to train and develop staff and working with others in a team environment;
  • Has the ability to push for process, self, and industry improvement at all times.
  • Works collaboratively with division rail engineering staff and other practice centers around the firm on large, complex projects. Coordinates project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients are provided the best design capabilities to meet their needs.

Essential Responsibility

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Professional Engineer certification(s) (PE) in MA, NY, NJ, PA, CT preferred;
    • 10 or more years of signal design experience in:
      • Advanced Train Control Systems
      • CAB Signaling
      • ATP/ATO signaling, Mircoprocessor and relay based interlocking
      • Block Signal Systems
      • Highway Crossing Warning Systems
      • Positive Train Control and CBTC systems preferred


    • Experience in writing test plans and procedures, cutover staging plans, and system acceptance plans and reports;
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Products (outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
    • Experience with and ability to design on screen with AutoCAD, Promis*e, MicroStation and other CADD software
