he time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is now hiring for Bridge Construction Inspectors for projects in the Cleveland/Akron, Ohio area anticipated to start in 2018.

Job Summary

Responsible for providing daily inspection of multiple, complex activities within a given discipline/trade performed by the contractor in order to monitor the project compliance with plans, specifications and other contract provisions. Maintains daily logs of inspection work which is assigned and reviews discrepancies or changes with Field Engineer. Performs non-routine and moderately complex assignments normally related to multiple and/or medium to large projects.

Essential Responsibility

  • Monitors work of Contractor against reviewed Project Schedule.
  • Participates in on-site training of staff. 
  • Produces As-Constructed sketches as required.
  • Reads and comprehends contract documents.
  • Keeps Inspector's Daily Report of assigned work activities. 
  • Performs on-site material testing.
  • Performs measurements of completed work to date.
  • Performs complicated mathematical calculations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

- Responsible for daily inspection efforts on bridge projects.
- Perform field inspection of contractor operations to see that they comply with contract documents.
- Prepare daily and weekly reports on work accomplished by contractor and review periodical pay estimates for accuracy with contractor.
- Prepare sketches and assemble data for Field Engineers use in making changes to the project.
- Assure contractor performs according to plans and specifications.

Basic Qualification

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
3 years construction related experience
All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Required by the State:
High School diploma or equivalent and NICET Highway Construction Level II certification OR Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology
3  years of construction related experience in bridge inspection
Valid drivers license and good driving record
All jurisdictional certificates and Ohio state requirements as necessary including, but not limited to these testing certifications:
- ACI Level I
- Flexible Pavement Test
- Ohio Aggregate Level I
- NICET Level III Structures Work Element
- Successful completion of the ODOT Advances Structures Test OR, if formerly  employed by ODOT, successful completion of all three of the following ODOT HT Series Training and certifications:
- HT.110 Basic Structures
- HT.207 Advance Structures
- HT Construction Structures Certification Test

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
