We are looking for a bright, organized, and determined Project Manager who can build relationships with a wide variety of people.  The ability to multitask and prioritize competing project obligations are essential to long term success in this role.

Job Summary

Responsible for the leadership and management of team in support of the project’s profitable operation. Responsible for proactively managing the projects technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications and HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivery of quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Responsible for gross revenue of <$5M.

Essential Responsibility

  • Performs technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specification and plan preparation to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.
  • Actively manages project scope, schedule and budget. Serves as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Implements the firm’s  project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project.
  • Develops project scope and fee quotation, and assists in the preparation of proposals and contracts.
  • Coordinates work efforts and reviews of work performed by project team. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives.
  • Oversees project staffing with departments, offices and divisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for managing interdisciplinary projects, document preparation and production, managing sub consultants, monitoring budgets, schedules, administering quality control program, and perform reviews of work. The candidate must have experience managing and writing technical proposals, the ability to function as a client manager for NJ-based clients, and possess in-depth experience in the design of highways, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to interact well with client management teams, engineers in other technical disciplines, and marketing teams is essential.
Essential Responsibility
- Apply civil engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various project phases involving transportation engineering works including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction and operation
- Planning, executing and delivering the engineering for major highway projects
- Proactively engage with clients and contractors to prepare high quality, technically efficient and cost effective solutions
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with clients and engineering partners.
- Responsible for the delivery of project scope elements within budget and on schedule
- Assigns tasks to engineers, technicians or administrative staff
- Oversees completeness, quality and accuracy of project team’s work
- Supervises and guides team to overall project objectives
- Directs and mentors staff
- Provides or obtains senior-level technical expertise to client on project aspects
- Plans and coordinates project deliverables such as plans, specifications, cost estimates and schedules
- Prepares scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments
- Actively manage client's budget, schedule and program
- Actively manage project teams and subconsultants
- Actively manage HNTB budget and schedule
- Participate in monthly project reviews
- Responsible for project communications and documentation
- Responsible for maintaining and developing client relations to assist in securing profitable new work
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Engineering
8 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

Basic Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
15+ years relevant experience in transportation and highway design projects
- Registered Professional Engineer in NJ required
- NJDOT, NJTA and/or County experience required
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualification/Skills
- Licensed Professional Engineer in New York or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Management or other closely related discipline
- Familiarity with Microstation and InRoad
- Primavera and scheduling capabilities
- Participation in professional organizations

General Work Conditions

Combination Office and Field Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use. Work may infrequently be performed at client’s job site, construction trailer, and in the field. Work may sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking. Adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.
