Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to work on our multi-modal transportation projects in Southern California. The position will be based in in our Los Angeles, CA office

 

 

 

 

Job Summary

Coordinate and supervise efforts of a planning group to perform studies and services as required.  Normally acts as Project Leader for projects dealing with planning issues in his/her specialty.  Supervise other planners and scientists in preparation of studies and reports.  Provides technical direction in all phases of studies and performs technical services where necessary.  Review studies prepared by others in the planning group.  Interface with clients on projects and attend public meetings and conferences in association with projects.

 

  • Review of design plans
  • Coordination of data be gathered for environmental, community, and/or human impact studies
  • Preparation and assessment of impact studies
  • Development of alternatives to project
  • Comparison analyses of community benefit verses cost of project
  • Attend meetings both within and outside the firm pertaining to existing and potential projects (Public awareness groups and regulatory agencies, etc.)
  • Coordination and consultation with Federal, State and Local agencies on scope and impact of project
  • Submit required statements of intent to Federal, State and Local authorities regarding proposed projects
  • Proposal presentations

Essential Responsibility

 Bachelor's degree in Planning plus 7 years of experience

Additional Responsibilities

- Support Project Manager on major projects in all aspects of the project including task management, cost control, staffing and quality control
- Serve as Project Manager or Planning Task Manager on smaller projects or task orders related to transit, highway, or active transportation planning
- Prepare documents including memoranda, reports, and supporting tables and figures. 
- Participate in project coordination meetings
- Develop project alternatives for consideration in planning and environmental documents
- Track action items and project issues
- Coordinate work efforts with other disciplines, including engineering, architecture, and other staff to address and resolve project issues
- Prepare comment responses and manage comment resolution process
- Write meeting minutes to document coordination

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or related discipline
- Knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, FTA, and FHWA regulations and procedures
- At least 6 years of experience
- Strong Communication Skills
- Experience in planning Passenger Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, and/or Transit Rail projects
- Experience with GIS desired
