Overview

The time is right to join HNTB Corporation!  HNTB is seeing a Transportation Planner III in our Downtown Los Angeles, CA  office.

 

This position performs all aspects of planning assignments and may begin to focus expertise. Work emphasizes design and technical aspects of projects but may include limited task assignee duties and tasks associated with business development. May assist in directing small-scale planning projects and portions of larger projects from concept development through submission drawings

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs all aspects of planning assignments and may begin to focus expertise. Work emphasizes design and technical aspects of projects but may include limited task assignee duties and tasks associated with business development. May assist in directing small-scale planning projects and portions of larger projects from concept development through project completion.

Essential Responsibility

  • Finalizes production of environmental documents, transportation plans and reports.
  • Coordinates with sub-consultants and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced staff.
  • Final production of graphics associated with public meetings, presentation drawings, reports, etc.
  • Uses technical software to perform project analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP’s.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

 
- Support studies and planning activities related to multi-modal transportation projects. 
- Assist in the preparation of environmental documents; including Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements and other technical reports.
- Conduct transportation and land use related research and documentation.
- Conduct public outreach activities as required to comply with state and federal guidelines
- Assist in formulating and conducting technical planning studies in a timely and efficient manner and present results in concise, well-written documents.
- Perform technical analysis utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) modeling tools.
- Prepare graphical materials in support of transportation studies.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Planning or related field plus 4 years related experience or Master's degree in Planning or related field plus 2 years related experience

Preferred Qualification/Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or related discipline
- Knowledge of transportation planning principles
- At least 2 years of experience
- Strong Communication Skills
- Experience in planning Passenger Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, and/or Transit Rail projects
- Experience with GIS

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
