Overview

The time is right to join HNTB! We are currently seeking Resident Engineers in our Chicago, Illinois office.

 

Each Resident Engineer will be responsible for overall field management of HNTB’s construction management services provided on trackwork, station, structure, or other facility projects that support rail operations of a diverse and complex nature. Monitors activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements, provides technical leadership for field engineers and other direct reports, and reviews constructability of project drawings and specifications to mitigate installation issues.



Job Summary

  • Read and Interpret complex contract documents – plans and specifications
  • Read and interpret construction contract language
  • Monitor Contractor progress and compare with reviewed Progress Schedule
  • Provides guidance, training and leadership to inspection, quality, and project controls staff.
  • Administer Construction Budget
  • Monitors HNTB’s CM Quality Plan and assist Project Quality Representative to ensure required procedures are performed and documented through the construction phaseCollect data to brief Client on Project Issues and provide possible resolution
  • Review and draft responses to Contractor's correspondence as required
  • Review Inspector Daily Reports and Assemble Summary Report of Daily Activities
  • Proactively manage construction changes and claims and work with client to resolve
  • Monitors contractor progress against project schedule and identifies recovery opportunities
  • Oversees construction contracts in the $25-$500 Million  range
  • Actively manage client’s budget, schedule and scope of construction project; HNTB budget and schedule; project communications and documentation.

Essential Responsibility

 

Required:

  • 10 years of direct Resident Engineer construction management experience in rail rapid transit and/or public rail transit construction, including power and way renewal and facility renewal projects on an existing, operating rapid transit system
  • Design-Bid-Build or Design-Build Experience in construction of major heavy rail trackwork, stations or structures

Preferred:

  • BS in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical) or Construction Management
  • PE in Illinois or ability to obtain within six months
  • Experience on CTA projects
  • Experience in construction means and methods for elevated and ballasted, embedded and direct fixation track systems
  • Strong communications and leadership characteristics
  • Understanding of track interface and coordination with rail systems including traction power, OCS, Signals and Communications
  • Familiarity with electronic and web-based project management tools and file management systems
