We are seeking a Business Development Manager/Sr. Project Manager for our Water Group in Indianapolis, Indiana to help grow our Water practice throughout Indiana.  Although this position would ideally be based in Indianapolis, Indiana there may be an option to work remotely from another Indiana location.  


For more than 60 years, the HNTB Indianapolis office has planned, designed, and delivered some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Indiana and around the country.  Our 100+ local employees are surrounded by a vast network of more than 3,000 employees in our other offices. The Indianapolis office is the Firm’s leader in drinking and wastewater services. Our staff provides client services in wastewater, drinking water, road and bridge design, public-private partnership administration, environmental planning, and construction inspection.  Employee collaboration within the departments in the office results in challenging work but a rewarding career growth. Located on Monument Circle the office location offers our employees the unique opportunity to be within walking distance to many of our clients and provides easy access to many downtown entertainment events, housing, and restaurants.




Job Summary


  • Develop and nurture relationships with key water clients in the region.
  • Responsible for new business development and winning work.
  • Serves as primary client contact for multiple projects. 
  • Has full managerial responsibility for all aspects of the project including negotiating extras, cost control, staffing and quality control.
  • Estimate fees, determine scope of work, and prepare proposals and contracts on large or multiple projects.
  • Actively manage client’s budget, schedule and program; HNTB budget and schedule; project communications and documentation.
  • Satisfy client requirements.
  • Coordinate work efforts and review work performed.
  • Helps maintain industry recognition through prominence in state and regional professional associations..
  • Promote the presence and image HNTB in the marketplace. 


Essential Responsibility




  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering plus 16 years of related experience
  • Experience working with municipal clients
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to travel


  • PE in Indiana 
  • Established relationships with water clients in Indiana
  • Active in relevant professional organizations/societies
  • Demonstrated history of business development within the water industry

Environment and Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally.
